Plan South Main is an opportunity to come together and plan for the future of one of High Point’s most
important corridors. The Study Area includes the 1.49 mile stretch of S. Main Street from Business I-85 to W.
Green Drive, Vail Avenue from S. Main Street to the Heritage Greenway, and improved

Plan South Main is an opportunity to come together and plan for the future of one of High Point’s most important corridors.
South Main Street is an essential gateway and entrance into High Point, connecting Business I-85 to Downtown. It is the “living room” of the community yet the physical form of the street space is not representative of the pride, prosperity, and welcoming environment one associates with High Point. With buildings set back from the street, wide travel lanes, and limited opportunities for pedestrians to safely walk along the corridor, S. Main Street divides the community as an auto-oriented, strip-commercial highway. Plan South Main will help reconnect the Southwest and Southeast neighborhoods to each other and to downtown High Point, overcoming decades of isolation by an outdated arterial highway and associated infrastructure investments that physically cut off these neighborhoods from key services.
Many communities across the country are rethinking development and growing in smarter ways. With proper planning, design, and implementation, there is tremendous opportunity to reclaim, revitalize, and redevelop the South Main Street corridor into the Gateway to South High Point.

Please SAVE THE DATE for an interactive planning charrette, November 3 – 7, 2025. We highly encourage you to join us.
The time is now to come together as a community and share ideas for what’s next for South Main Street. A common vision and plan will guide and direct the transformation of this key corridor into a safe, walkable, and active urban corridor serving as a proud address for all of High Point. By having a plan in place that reflects the community’s wants and needs, near and long-term strategies can support a better-connected South High Point. Plan South Main is not only a chance to have your voice heard, but a chance to listen to one another and work together to form a common vision for the corridor. Your involvement is critical to plan success. There will be multiple opportunities for you to participate, and we encourage you and your neighbors to make the most of this historic moment in the life of South High Point.
The charrette will feature a variety of events at different days and times to offer multiple opportunities to participate in the process. We encourage you to come to at least one event, if not more. We want to hear from you and are grateful for your participation, time, and ideas. All are invited!
You live and work in the area, you visit with neighbors and walk to local businesses, you travel to and from work or school – you know the area best!
We need your ideas to shape the plan.
From casual conversations to group discussions, we want to hear from you. You are the local
experts and we are your planning technicians – together we will create a plan that will withstand
the test of time and set forth a course for future improvement and action.
